Songs heard underwater from your Rincon Sandy Beach vacation rental

There has been little study on vocalisations other than song, generally referred to as ‘social sounds’. One study using hydra phones found that social sounds were heard only in groups containing more than three whales and were associated with competitiveness of the males. Studies now suggest that singers are always male and a combination of sexual advertisement, a means of dominance sorting in males. A spacing mechanism in males and a mechanism of ‘organising’ males during the breeding season. Singers typically stop when they are joined by other whales. The song may be repeated continuously for hours by the males. Singing is heard on the winter breeding grounds and on migration. The song can last from a few minutes to around 30 minutes and heard from the waters in front of your Rincon surf rental. Songs are different in each group and it changes slightly each year. When the whales are relatively close, anyone underwater can feel the sound waves their vocalizations generate in our rib cages, in addition to hearing them. At times songs are so loud and persistent that they are completely distracting. At their loudest, the sounds are close to overpowering. At times lie these it may seem impossible to do or think of anything else but cherish the moment. Remain quiet and still and if your lucky, they just might continue. Stay with us one time and you soon understand why our Rincon beachfront wedding venue has became so popular.

Seen along our Rincon Sandy Beach vacation rental

Humpbacks can reach lengths of 50 feet and weights up to 50 tons and have a life span of 50 years if lucky. The head of the humpback whale is large in proportion to the body and is up to a third of the total body length. These magnificent creatures have gentle dispositions and may have contributed to their being poached almost to the point of extinction. There are estimates of 15,000 humpback whales in the world. Today, the humpback whale remains on the Endangered Species List but often seen from your Rincon Sandy Beach vacation rental. We have been told that this assisted in the designation of Tres Palmas Beach National Marine Reserve. This is now of particular importance because this area is home to some of the healthiest Elk horn Coral in the world. A large area along your Rincon surf rental has also recently been established a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act for this beautiful coral. The Humpback’s appear to be increasing in numbers, although populations were quite low until the mid 1970. They were given protection in 1963 by the IWC but still threatened; actually the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) describes the status of the humpback whale now as vulnerable. Think about and watch for these magnificent creatures as you enjoy the day in one of our Rincon Sandy Beach apartment verandas.

Whale Distribution along your Rincon surf rental

The waters surrounding your Rincon surf rental have long been important breeding habitat for the endangered humpback’s. The whales spotted in Rincon are thought to have originated from such far-flung areas as New England, Iceland, and Newfoundland.  They are found in ocean all over the world, from the tropics to polar waters but can be spotted from your Rincon Sandy Beach vacation rental in the mornings. Each year they are seen and followed by professionals and tourist alike. Certainly this is a sight to see and again can be seen from your balcony at Pelican Point.

Humpback Calves

Females with calves tend to use the shallow waters near the shore of your Rincon Sandy Beach Vacation rental for breeding and their feeding grounds. This is thought to be to reduce predation and to avoid being bullied by males. Several males can display aggressive behavior when competing for access to a female as females do not mate with the same male. Males are not monogamist and join females from different feeding grounds. and can be seen from your Rincon Surf rental. Calves range from 9-15 feet and weigh 1-2 ton at birth. Calves in both hemispheres are light grey at birth and darken during the first month of life. Mothers separate from their calves 10-11 after birth, sometimes calves are seen with their mothers longer.

The Humpback Migration can be seen from your Rincon Surf Rental

The migrating Humpback’s are seen each year off Rincon’s coastline on their journey back to the North Atlantic each summer. These whales are regularly seen singly, in pairs or in groups of 20 or more. They form small groups which change frequently and move to areas with better food sources. Female-male and female-female pairs are common and there is recent evidence that social interactions are more complex than previously thought. Their migration is one of the longest of any mammal. It is not clear why these whales migrate although suggestions include predator avoidance and the search for warm water when food is scarce in their feeding grounds. They mate and calve out front of our Rincon surf rental, maybe only 200 meters away from your Rincon beachfront accommodation but return to the cold Atlantic water to feed during the summer

Whale watching from one of the many Rincon beachfront accommodations

Rincon’s best-kept secrets just might be the whale-watching from any one of our many Rincon beachfront accommodations. There is an annual Humpback Whale festival held at our beautiful and completely revamped lighthouse. The lighthouse grounds offers both a great view of the surfers but also Puerto Rico’s premiere whale watching sight although, I have seen far more whales off the balcony of our Rincon beachfront rental suites. The festival honors the endangered Humpback Whale (ballenas corcovadas in Spanish) and attended by people all over Puerto Rico. Whales are spotted January through March along Rincon’s beautiful coast, though whales have been seen all around the island. You might even get lucky and catch a glimpse of sperm whale further off the north coast from January through August. They usually prefer the deep waters far from shore, so it is less likely.  The Mona Passage, The Dominican Republic and any number of Rincon surf rentals are other popular spots for whale-watching.  Most of the Humpback Whale activity is reported early in the day (before 10 AM) and during the evening hours.

Endangered Latherback Turtles or Rincon Puerto Rico

The winter months may provide you with a glimpse of the huge endangered Humpback whales. They arrive along the coasts here as a breeding ground and as part of their cyclical migrations. Endangered Leatherback Turtles are also spotted by tourists inside one of Rincon’s Sandy Beach Vacation rental facilities. The turtles are enormous and a true site to see. They lay more eggs than one could imagine as they fight the sand to drag their huge bodies above the high tide mark and dig deep holes with their flippers. After about an hour she completely cover her eggs, only to fight exhaustion and make her way back the sea. Rincon is the point where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean’s and a true sight weather you see the turtles or whales or not. The sunsets, the crystal waters along with Rincon’s beautiful and colorful people make Rincon a true beach getaway, one that most would never forget.

Rincon Puerto Rico

Rincon is referred to as the “Town of the Beautiful Sunsets” and sometimes as “The Surfing Town.”

In 1968 one of the world’s first surfing championships was held in Rincon and televised. In 2010-2011 a rather large surfer statue was unveiling along the entranceway to the Rincon Surf rental zone. This was done, I believe, to coincide with the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Championship contest where both the woman’s and men’s world surf champions were crowned. Sports enthousiest may be excited to find a huge sporting complex, track, gym, baseball field and tennis courts….. all free to anyone wanting to use them.

Rincon is perfect for those outdoor lovers who enjoy the great fishing, surfing, sunbathing, barbequing and other related activities. Softball, volleyball and soccer games are a regular site in the day and the nights filled with bongo drums around beach fires, friends gathering in beachside taverns or salsa dancers celebrating life with no real thoughts of tomorrow.

Inside the heart of Rincon, surprisingly you’ll find clothing, chemicals, electronic equipment, and scientific instruments being produced. In the past, livestock and sugar cane farming were the main economic activities.

Today, the only agriculture is fruit. Mangoes tree’s line the roads, (gather enough for your own mango daiquiri) which form a gorgeous canopy along the western entrance into Rincon. After passing under this canopy you’ll see the surfer statue where you’ll turn left and pass Tres Palmas where thirty foot waves can occur along road 413, also known as “the Road to Happiness.” Continue along 413 and you will find other beautiful canopies along the Rincon surf rental zones of Sandy Beach. As you drive through them, you can hear the waves crashing, see the surfers ripping and notice many simply rocking inside a beachside hammock in the wind…………….. sound asleep another group with no real thoughts of tomorrow.

Rincon’s residents are predominately Puerto Rician’s but inside the largest Rincon Beachfront rental zone you’ll find Sandy Beach and many tourists. Here you can find a huge resident population of English speaking Americans along with plenty of bilingual locals as well. I believe you’ll find a different standard of living in this area. Places are often the most modern and amenities the greatest inside the Sandy Beach vacation rental or Puntas zone. Each zone of Rincón is visited by thousands of tourists each year but they seem to prefer the winter months to surf and excape the cold extremes of New York, NJ, and surrounding areas.

How Sandy Beach Fits into Rincon Puerto Rico's Neighborhoods

Rincon Puerto Rico is known for its white sandy beaches, laid back atmosphere, surreal sunsets and remarkable Rincon beachfront vacation rentals.

It’s municipality (city) is divided into the sectors of Pueblo, Atalaya, Barrero, Calvache, Cruces, Ensenada, Jagüey, Puntas or Sandy Beach and Río Grande. Its territory covers 14 square miles, so large that it’s beaches need to identitfied separately as each zone will bring something completely different.

Some zones bring isolation, some have a small fleet of lobster fisherman, others often let go and not up to standards many tourist would find appealing.

There are gorgeous zones along the Marina Natural reserve and in the Sandy Beach vacation rental zone known again as Puntas.

Rincon Puerto Rico's Rip Curl Pro Search Beachfront Surf Party at Pelican Point

Big Wednesday party was the only Rincon sanctioned event for the Puerto Rician Rip Curl World Surfing Event. The party was held in the beachfront luxury courtyard of Pelcan Point. The party also turns into a memorial cermemony for 3 time world Champion Andy Irons as he was pronounced dead the previous day. Stephanie Gilmore has already been crowned the 2010 Worlds woman Champion, and Kelly Slater took his 10th World Title win a few days later in his native country. He beet the local PR Puerto Rician pro Dillian Graves which was a huge local inspiration and great surfer. Kelly Slater takes a 10 million dollar extra purse (stock in Quick Silver) for taking a 10th world title, unheard of ever before Slater entered the arena. The Surf Event was over shadowed by the tragic and suden death of Andy while he was here for this huge event. Andy leaves his 8 month pregnant wife behind. The party at Pelican Point was restructured to be a memorail party in his honor and turned out to be a huge party overlooking the surf on Sandy Beach. Tents were provided by Oakley and The Room and food and drinks provided by Rip Curl and Pelican Point and brought people from all over Puerto Rico to include the San Juan Tourism staff. More events are planned for the surf out front in front, where Pelican Point will be the predoninate sponsor.
